1. TURBINADO
Turbinado is a fancy word for sugar that "health" food companies like Smoothie King use to hide the ~75 grams of sugar packed into your food. The name comes from the turbine they spin the sugar in while making it.
2. BROWN RICE SYRUP
Look out for this one in your snacks and meal bars.
3. WHITE GRAPE JUICE
This is one of the trickier hidden sugars. It sounds so great! But white grape juice is basically straight sugar.
4. SHERBET & SORBET
This is an additive in many smoothies to increase their sweetness profile, but sherbet and sorbet often have more sugar than ice cream.
5. MALTODEXTRIN
While it is technically a complex carb, maltodextrin acts like a sugar and causes a sugar spike. It's added to many foods as a bulking and sweeting agent.
6. AGAVE NECTAR
This one is tricky because it sounds so healthy, but it's another form of sugar commonly used in foods that are marketed as healthy.
